It’s time to head to your local orchard and pick those crisp juicy apples! Apples for pies, crisps and Homemade Applesauce! The perfect way to celebrate Autumn!
Making your own Homemade Applesauce is so easy and a great way to control how much sugar is added (if any!)
All of our local orchards are brimming with boat loads of apples and family’s celebrating Autumn.
Apple picking is one of my favorite family traditions and some of my favorite recipes that I’ve shared here on Family Table Treasures are the one’s that include apples.
In fact I just made the Apple Crisp recipe this past weekend for a party and it was a huge hit as usual. Who doesn’t love hot Apple Crisp with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Another family favorite is Homemade Applesauce. We love to serve it with pork or to add on top of our Winter Squash Soup to make them even more delicious.
The best part of making Homemade Applesauce is I know exactly what’s going into it. I can control how much sugar is added and sometimes I don’t add any at all.
It's time to head to your local orchard and pick those crisp juicy apples! Apples for pies, crisps and Homemade Applesauce! The perfect way to celebrate Autumn!
- 6 Pounds Macintosh apples ,peeled, cored and chopped
- 1 Cup Apple cider or juice ,water can also be used
- 1/2-3/4 Cup Brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon ,optional
Place all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes until the apples are softened and juices thicken.
Remove from heat and cool. At this point you can blend in a food processor or blender for a smooth applesauce or leave as is for a chunky style sauce.
This Homemade Applesauce makes a great side to serve with a meal or a delicious healthy snack. Pack some up to send to school or have some ready for a quick afternoon treat!
