24Pretzel sticks
1TablespoonRainbow nonpareilsoptional
1containerSparkle Dustoptional
2Piping bags
Instructions
Place a sheet of wax paper on a large cookie sheet or cutting board. Set aside.
Melt about half of your bag of white candy melts (either over a double boiler or in your microwave) Be careful not to overheat. The trick is to keep stirring once they begin to melt. Do not add more heat. Be patient. Just keep stirring until they are all melted and smooth. ***You do not want any hard bits left or they will clog your piping bag.
Fit your disposable piping bag with a number 3 piping tip and fill your bag with melted white candy melts.
Begin to pipe your snowflakes onto your wax paper. Pipe a straight line down from top to bottom about 2 inches long. Pipe another line splitting your first line in half so it looks like a plus sign. Then pipe through diagonally from the top left to the bottom right and finish by piping from the top right to the bottom left. You should have eight points. At the tip of each point pipe a little v shape just like the picture of the snowflake. Sprinkle with a bit of the sparkle dust if desired to add a little sparkle to your snowflakes if desired. ***You need to do this before it hardens or it won't stick. Make 11 more snowflakes and let them sit until hardened. Mine hardened pretty quickly but you could place in the fridge to speed up the process if you want. I used an off set spatula to carefully separate the snowflake from the wax paper.
For the Christmas Trees
Place a sheet of wax paper onto a large cookie sheet or cutting board and set aside.
Melt about half of your green candy melts and save the rest for another project.
Fit a disposable piping bag with a number 5 piping tip. Fill your bag with melted green candy melts. Pipe a dot of green melted candy onto your wax paper and place the tip of a pretzel stick onto it. Starting about one inch above your pretzel stick pipe a little upside down v for the tip of your tree then begin piping back and forth horizontally making your lines longer as you get to the base of your tree. Make sure you over lap your lines together so it will hold together and be a bit stronger. Leave about one inch of pretzel uncovered at the base to stick into your cupcake. Sprinkle with a bit of the rainbow nonpareils at this point while the candy melts are still wet so they can stick. Repeat to make 11 more trees and let harden. ***Wait until right before serving to place onto your cupcakes so that the pretzel does not get too soft. Also if you are traveling with these you may want to wait to put them on your cupcakes at the party to prevent breakage.
