Bananas Foster Fried Bananas are one sweet treat you don’t want to miss out on!  Bananas are dipped in a brown sugar /crushed corn flake mixture then fried to crispy perfection. You can either dip them directly in the Bananas Fosters sauce or top your ice cream with them and drizzle the sauce over it for one scrumptious dessert!

Pinterest is one of my favorite social media sites to look at different recipes and get ideas for new things.  Do you follow me on Pinterest?

If you’re not following me yet you can just click on the Pinterest social media button in the top right hand corner of this page.  It will bring you directly to my Pinterest page and you can just click follow.  That way you’ll see all the scrumptious things that I pin come through your feed!

I was scrolling through my Pinterest feed and came to a picture of something crispy and delicious looking with sauce dripping off of it.  Kind of like the picture above.

It really wasn’t what I thought it was a picture of though.  I thought it was Fried Bananas dipped in a caramel sauce.  It was actually a crispy chicken tender dipped in gravy but I couldn’t get my mind off of the Fried Banana idea so I decided to create my own recipe!

I had never actually eaten a fried banana and wasn’t sure how I would like it then a few weeks ago on a trip to New York City Paul and I had dinner at a Brazilian Steak House.

You know the type of restaurant where waiters come by with endless amounts of meats that they hand cut off of a giant skewer.  (I think I’m still actually full from that meal!)

At the start of the meal they came by with a few appetizers that they placed on the table and guess what one of those appetizers were.  Yup…Fried Bananas!

Of course you know I went straight for those babies since I still had that Pinterest picture on my mind. One bite and I knew I had to make my recipe idea.

The crispy corn flake/brown sugar coated Fried Bananas were delicious on their own but after making that Overnight Bananas Foster French Toast Casserole for Easter Brunch I haven’t been able to get my mind off that sensational Bananas Foster sauce.  I knew it would totally put these Fried Bananas over the top.

I was right!

Ingredients

For the fried bananas

  • 4 Large Bananas ,cut in half then sliced the long way into 3 slices. (Each banana should yield 6 slices)
  • 2 Large Eggs ,scrambled
  • 1 Cup Crushed corn flakes ,I pulsed mine in my blender
  • 1/2 Cup Packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 2 Cups Vegetable oil for frying bananas

For the Bananas Foster dipping sauce

  • 6 Tablespoons Unsalted butter ,melted
  • 1 Cup Brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Light corn syrup
  • 1/4 Cup Dark Rum ,optional (the alcohol will get cooked out of it)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • ¼ teasoon Cinnamon

Instructions

For the Bananas Foster dipping sauce

  • (I like to start by making the sauce first because you don't want your fried bananas to sit too long.)
  • In a medium pan, melt butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and rum on stove over medium heat. Cook and stir constantly until sugar is completely dissolved. About 5-10 minutes once it begins to bubble. Once sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and add vanilla and cinnamon. Pour into a serving dish and set aside.

For the fried bananas

  • Heat the oil in a medium sized saucepan to about 350 Degrees F on a candy thermometer. (You may need to adjust heat slightly as you cook)
  • While oil is heating.
  • Mix the crushed corn flakes, brown sugar and cinnamon together in a medium bowl.
  • Dip banana pieces in the scrambled egg to moisten then dip in corn flake mixture to coat. Place on a clean tray and set aside.
  • Before you begin to fry your bananas have a large cookie sheet with a large cooling rack ready. You will want to place your fried bananas on the rack to cool. (It will keep them more crisp than if you let them drain on a paper towel.)
  • Place a few bananas in the heated oil at a time. Don't overcrowd them. Let it cook for about 20-30 seconds on one side then flip and cook on the other side for the same amount of time or until they begin to brown. Keep a close eye on them so they don't burn. Use a slotted spoon to remove them to your cooling rack. Continue to cook all of your bananas. Serve immediately as they will begin to get less crispy as they sit.

That’s what I say Karly! Clearly I have a sweet tooth issue when I see chicken tenders with gravy as fried bananas with caramel! My son just finished the rest of the sauce off tonight on some ice cream. Good stuff. Definitely drool worthy!
