A creamy green dressing that’s bursting with flavor. When you make this Green Goddess Dressing Recipe you’ll want to add it to everything on your plate!
The inspiration for this recipe for Green Goddess Dressing came from Panera’s Green Goddess Salad. It’s one of my daughter’s favorite things to order when we go there to eat.
She decided to try to create her own version to enjoy anytime she wanted at home. In the end she used Panera’s recipe but made a few tweaks that gave it even more flavor.
What is Green Goddess Dressing?
You can find hundreds of different versions of Green Goddess Dressing Recipes on the internet. All with slightly different combinations of ingredients. They all have a combination of herbs with some sort of acid, and creamy base added.
In {Grace’s} Green Goddess Dressing Recipe basil is the herb used. It’s combined with garlic, shallots, agave, dijon mustard, rice wine vinegar and a combination of mayo and greek yogurt.
You may find slightly different ingredient combinations in other recipes. Some add anchovies and different herbs. While others may add an egg to theirs.

Who invented Green Goddess Dressing?
It is said to have been created by Chef Philip Roemer at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco in 1923. He created it to honor actor Georg Arliss who stayed at the hotel while performing in the hit play “The Green Goddess”.
His recipe has evolved over the years even at The Palace Hotel and some of the ingredients have changed. You can see more about the history and original recipe here.
