Fluffy homemade yeast dough rolled up with gooey layers of buttery cinnamon sugar and topped with melt in your mouth Cream Cheese Icing!  Homemade Cinnamon Rolls {with Cream Cheese Icing} are the perfect way to get them out of bed in the morning!

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls {with Cream Cheese Icing}

My son’s girlfriend has been begging him to make his famous Homemade Cinnamon Rolls {with Cream Cheese Icing} for months and he finally came through this weekend and gave us all a treat! The house was filled with wonderful aroma of cinnamon and sugar and it definitely gave us all a reason to get out of bed early this weekend.  There’s no sleeping in when these guys are in the oven.  You need to make sure you make it to the breakfast table early to claim your roll before they all get gobbled up!

The Pillsbury Dough Boy is cute but he’s got nothing on these Homemade Cinnamon Rolls!  Yes, you can just pop open a can and have his cinnamon rolls ready in 20 minutes but these Homemade Cinnamon Rolls are totally worth the extra time it takes to let the dough rise.

If you’ve never made Homemade Cinnamon Rolls you’re in for a real treat and you may just ditch the can from now on!

Instructions

For the dough

  • Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk in a large bowl.
  • Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and flour, mix well.
  • Knead the dough into a large ball, using your hands dusted lightly with flour.
  • Put in a bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface, until it is about 21 inches long by 16 inches wide.
  • It should be about 1/4 inch thick.

Make the filling

  • Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

For the icing

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and beat with hand mixer on high until smooth and creamy.
  • Spread icing over slightly cooled rolls and serve!
