Homemade Naan Bread is a delicious Indian flatbread that’s easy to make and very versatile! Serve it with your favorite Indian curry dish for sopping up that delicious sauce, make a flatbread style sandwich with it, or place your favorite toppings on it for a Naan crusted pizza!
After my son made his amazingly delicious Chicken Tikka Masala the first time we knew there was only one thing missing. A delicious Homemade Bread to sop up all that luscious curry sauce! Seriously it was so delicious we were ready to drink it! So the next time he made it he also decided to make Homemade Bread to go with it. Now if you’re making Indian food that means the bread needs to be an Indian style bread as well. So he came up with this killer recipe for Homemade Naan Bread and it was exactly what that Chicken Tikka Masala was begging for!
Making this Homemade Naan Bread was really very easy too. There is some time involved because you are working with yeast which means you need the give the bread time to rise but the actually work time is minimal. Whether you make my {Memeire’s} Homemade Bread, Grammy’s Polish Babka Bread or this Homemade Naan Bread there will be some rise time to deal with but I promise you it is totally worth it! Remember….”Good things come to those who wait”!
We served this Naan with our Chicken Tikka Masala and it was so good I couldn’t wait to eat the left overs the next day. I was thinking is would be great to dip in my hummus as a snack or I could make a yummy flatbread sandwich. Unfortunately someone beat me to it! I’m just going to have to whip up an another batch I guess.
Homemade Naan Bread
Ingredients
- 1 packet Active dry yeast
- 1 Cup Warm water
- 1/4 Cup White sugar
- 3 Tablespoons Milk
- 1 Large Egg beaten
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 4 1/2 Cups Bread flour
- 1 Clove Garlic minced (optional)
- 1/4 Cup Butter ,melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand about 10 minutes, until the yeast begins to activate and becomes frothy. Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, or until smooth. Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set aside in a warm dark place to rise. Let it rise for1 hour, until the dough has doubled in volume.
- Punch down dough, and knead in garlic. Pinch off small handfuls of dough about the size of a golf balls. Roll into balls, and place on a tray. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
- During the second rising, preheat a skillet to high heat. Roll one ball of dough out with a rolling pin into a thin circle. Lightly oil skillet. Place dough in your skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned. Brush uncooked side with butter and turn over. Brush cooked side with butter, and cook until browned, another 2 to 4 minutes. Remove from skillet and continue the process until all the naan has been prepared.

This was the best naan! Absolutely delicious! I even froze some of the dough after the first rise the thawed it out and made the bread. Just wonderful.
