Today Mom is sharing some of her Christmas memories about some of the Christmas trees that she’s had over the years including this year’s Old World Christmas Tree. This is her first post here on “FTT” so make sure you show her some love and leave her a comment below!
I have had a variety of Christmas trees throughout the years, Big ones, little ones, fat and skinny ones. I even have had a scimpy little 2’ Charlie Brown tree. I have also collected many beautiful ornaments throughout those years including my treasured ornaments from my childhood from the 50’s..
The Past few years I have only put decorations out here and there and a large, white, handmade Ceramic Nativity set with an open Bible to the story of Christ’s birth. But this year as I was sorting through my deceased mother’s things, I happened to come across the last tree she had while she was still with us. It was given to her by a friend who was a nurse that helped us with her care . The tree is only 3’ high. Small enough to put on a counter. She had decorated it for her with lots of pink flowers and ornaments. It was very lovely but ended up becoming disheveled while it was stored away.
This year I was not going to put up a tree but became a bit nostalgic with memories of Christmas past so decided to spruce up my mom’s little 3 foot tree and put it up. I decorated it simply as a traditional Old World Christmas Tree perhaps as my parents once may have done when they were children.
I still had many of their straw ornaments and a few molded honey ornaments which were sent from Lithuania. I can still remember my father making some of those ornaments with paper straws for the lack of actual straw they once used so long ago.
This year, as last, there will be loved ones missing at our Christmas table and as we remember and hold them in our hearts we will keep celebrating the tradition of passing our Holy Bread , the Oplatek . We will continue to celebrate the Birth of Christ our Lord at our Christmas Eve, Wigilia, Kucios and Christmas Day because of the love that was given to us.
I wish all, near and far “A silent night, A star above, A blessed gift of hope and love. A blessed Christmas to all of you ! A year of Mercy that will bring Peace in your heart and in all the world!”
Merry Christmas and a Joyful 2017 New Year. God Bless !
