These Spiked Hot Chocolate {Truffles} are the perfect chocolaty treat to warm you up on those chilly winter days ahead!
Do you make cookies, candies, breads or some other special treat to share with friends during the holidays?
I get together with a friend of mine and we have a day set aside just for that purpose. We put our heads together and recipes and come up with something special to share with others. Last year we made an assortment of truffles and candies. This year we decided on these elegant Spiked Hot Chocolate {Truffles}. I’m calling them spiked because there is some alcohol in them but not much. Just a bit for flavor.
The truffles are a combination of ganache with a variety of liquors added to create different flavors. We used Peppermint Schnapps, Creme de Menthe, Frangelico and Baileys but you can use whatever you like. If you want to make them without alcohol you could add other non alcoholic flavorings in its place too.
Our little Truffles came out so pretty and make some of the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted!
When I came home with my massive tray of Truffles my kids’ eyes were popping out of their heads. Of course they both needed to taste test my project to make sure they were worthy of gifting.
They both gave the Hot Chocolate Truffles rave reviews. They loved the chocolatey flavor and my daughter proclaimed, “You could sell these!”
I got to enjoy this one after he finished his photo shoot! And he was delightful!
Spiked Hot Chocolate {Truffles}
Ingredients
- 1 ,12 ounce bag Semi sweet chocolate chips , finely chopped
- 1/2 Cup Heavy cream
- 1/4 Cup Liquor of your choice
- ***For white chocolate reduce cream to 1/4 Cup
Instructions
- In a medium sauce pan heat cream over medium heat. Once you see steam rising from surface of the cream...just before it comes to a boil...remove from heat and place finely chopped chocolate into cream.
- Let sit for one minute then stir with a whisk to incorporate.
- Continue to stir until chocolate is smooth.
- Stir in liquor or flavoring.
- Pour into a 8x8 baking dish. Cool to room temperature. Place in refrigerator to chill overnight.
- Using a small cookie scoop, scoop enough chocolate to make a 2 inch ball.
- Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Place back in fridge for 30 minutes.
- Remove and roll into smooth balls. **(The heat from your hands will begin to melt the chocolate so be careful not to handle too long)
- Embellish with crushed candies, sugars or mini marshmallows and place in a mini cupcake liner.
- Insert a decorative paper straw for stirring.
- Place finished truffles in fridge until ready to use.
- Stir in hot milk or coffee and enjoy!
