I”m not sure I can claim to be a connoisseur of Fish Tacos but I can tell you that this is the Best Fish Taco Recipe I’ve ever tasted!
To be honest…I just started eating Fish Tacos recently. But since my son turned me on to this delicious dish I order them all the time now. If I see Fish Tacos on the menu you know that’s what I’m going to be ordering.
So far nothing has compared to this recipe though and that includes the tasty ones I ordered on a recent trip to Mexico! Yes…they were delicious but this is the Best Fish Taco Recipe I’ve ever tasted!
What makes the Best Fish Taco Recipe?
If you love Fish Tacos you may have your favorite toppings to choose from. In my opinion that is definitely one of the keys to making the Best Fish Tacos.
You definitely need to have a good selection of tasty toppings. My favorite Fish Taco Toppings are Jicama Slaw, which I shared our favorite recipe for earlier this week. It adds a great tangy crunchiness to them.
Mango Salsa is another must have topping. I love the sweetness it adds. In fact I love serving Mango Salsa with all my fish dishes.
Lastly, a creamy and spicy fish sauce brings it all together when creating the Best Fish Taco Recipe.
What type of fish makes the Best Fish Tacos?
My favorite fish to use in Fish Tacos is Mahi Mahi however, it’s not easy to get where I live. Any mild white flaky fish can be used. I used Cod in this recipe because it’s usually always available “fresh” at my local market. Fresh is definitely key. Some other types of fish that make great tacos are, snapper, grouper, halibut and flounder.
What’s the best seasoning for making the Best Fish Tacos?
Adding seasoning to your fish really boosts the flavor in your Fish Tacos. The recipe that I used was adapted from Bobby Flay. I don’t know if my fish Taco’s could “Beat Bobby Flay” but in my opinion they’re the best!
Best Fish Taco Recipe
Ingredients
For the Fish and Fish Marinade
- 2 Pounds Cod ,or flaky white fish as suggested in recipe
- 1/4 Cup Olive oil
- 1 Lime ,Juiced
- 1 Tablespoon Ancho Chile Powder
- 1 Jalapeno ,diced
- 1/4 Cup Chopped, fresh Cilantro
For the Creamy Fish Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Sour Cream
- 1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
- 1 Lime ,juiced
- 2 teaspoons Chili Garlic Sauce ,see recipe notes for link to the one I use
Other ingredients needed for Tacos
- 16 Soft Taco Tortillas
- Jicama Slaw Recipe link in recipe notes
- Mango Salsa ,Recipe link in recipe notes
Instructions
For the Fish and Fish Marinade
- Preheat oven to 425 Degrees F.
- Place all ingredients except for the fish in a medium bowl and whisk together.
- Place fish in a shallow baking dish and pour marinade over it. Cover and place in the fridge to marinate for about 20 minutes.
- Line a baking sheet with tin foil and place fish on it. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until fish is cooked through and flaky.
- Heat a skillet to medium high, lightly spray with oil and heat tortillas for about 30 seconds per side.
For the Creamy Fish Sauce
- Place all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Taste and feel free to add any more chili garlic sauce if you like it spicier.
